Jack’s Rake and Dungeon Ghyll – Join us for this fantastic hike, in one of the most beautiful locations in Lakeland.

The breathtakingly spectacular area of Langdale runs west of Ambleside up to the Langdale Pikes (Pike is a local term for peak).

Today we’ll be taking in a short, but classic scramble up Jack’s Rake, one of the most exhilarating low grade scrambles in the Lake District, before we progress to take in some of the crags and pikes of the area.

On our way down we’ll visit Dungeon Ghyll Force, an impressive 40 foot waterfall, who’s deep ravine was described in Wordsworth’s ‘The Idle Shepherd-Boys’.

We enter the ravine to reveal a surreal chasm with a boulder wedged at the top creating a natural bridge.  It’s as if we have entered the Jurassic period, such is the wonder of the place.

After exploring and splashing around, we make our way along the fantastic watercourse taking us back to the start.

So join us on a fantastic day of walking and meet new faces amongst a group of sociable like-minded people … join the outdoors family of BootUpAdventurers!

“It was a spot which you may see if ever you to Lanngdale go; Into a chasm a mighty block hath fallen, and made a bridge of rock:  The gulf is deep below: And, in a basin black and small, receives a lofty waterfall.”
