Come and join us for our Snowdonia Hiking Weekend of relaxed walking in a small sociable group, sharing the adventure, making new friends and enjoying the authentic hostel experience.
Situated on the west coast of Wales, Snowdonia National Park is one of the most beautiful, historic and diverse landscapes of Britain, making it Wales’s undisputed activity capital.
It covers 823 square miles and is world renowned for its rugged landscape and geology, and Wales’s highest mountain, Snowdon, also known by its historical name Yr Wyddfa.
We arrive on Friday evening to be greeted by our Host, settle in and enjoy a lovely freshly prepared meal whilst getting to know each other. A little music, fun and games whilst sat around a real fire … but don’t get carried away, we’re up early and out for a full days hiking, taking in spectacular scenery, in and around the outstanding Ogwen Valley.
We will be taking on the famous North Face of Tryfan, with what is considered by the majority of people to be the best grade 1 scrambling route in Britain and was voted Britain’s favourite mountain by Trail magazine.
Tryfan is the only mountain in the UK that cannot be climbed via any approach without the use of your hands, at least at some point, depending on which route you take.
Situated in the picturesque Ogwen Valley, in Snowdonia and part of the Glyderau mountain range, there is no more distinctive and therefore easily recognisable mountain on these shores than Tryfan with it’s classic rugged crags reminiscent of a mighty sleeping dragon or dinosaur from ages past, frozen in time.
On the way up we’ll pass the Canon Stone, a large distinctive shaped rock, that juts out at 45 degrees, giving anyone who fancies, a memorable and boastful photo moment!
Summiting Tryfan we’ll see the two boulders known as Adam and Eve, which in the right conditions, can be leapt between, again giving another unique and even more fantastic photo for the ages… and well as being bestowed the honour of “The Freedom of Tryfan”.
After taking in the views and having a short break, we’ll continue our ascent over the Glyders and descend over Y Cribin for what is a full on mountain scrambling day, which is almost certainly going to rank as one of your best and most memorable days of adventure!
After our first day of hiking, we return to our bunkhouse late afternoon to reflect on a brilliant day’s trekking whilst being treated to another exceptional freshly prepared home cooked meal, followed by a great night of socialising!
After breakfast, Sunday sees us taking on another fantastic scramble up Senior’s Gully!
We begin by making our way around Llyn Idwal, the picturesque glacial lake, to the beginning of Senior’s Gully, where we start our ascent on a relatively steep broken path encountering some scree and sometimes crossing over the little streams we might encounter.
Eventually we begin our scramble proper and on the way up are faced with classic scrambling, which in places have a little technical aspect to them giving rise to it’s grade 1 status.
It doesn’t take too long for us to reach the top of Senior’s Gully, where we’ll stop for a short break to take in what we’ve just accomplished, before continuing to the summit of Glyder Fawr.
The views from here are spectacular, taking in the adjacent Carneddau mountain range and a clear view of where we’ll be descending, via the unmistakable Devil’s Kitchen.
A unique and memorable experience not to be missed …

“Fantastic weekend with Boot Up Adventures in Snowdonia. Lovely group, amazing walking/ scrambling with spectacular views and lovely food (vegan here!), followed by cosy vibes and guitar around the fire at night. Thanks guys I will be back!”
“A minor glimpse of the majesty of the mountains by day, followed by the melodic charms of the strings by moonlight [courtesy of Mr Midgley’s talented mitts] made for another buoyant evening with the ‘Boot’s Up’ crowd. Once again, a warm welcome from an amiable crowd and an ever gracious host; counting the days until the next one ⛰️🎸🎶😎”
