The Greenburn Round is one of the Lake District’s most perfectly formed circular ridge walks — a beautifully varied horseshoe offering dramatic views, peaceful valleys and four classic Wainwright summits. We begin with a steady climb onto Steel Fell, a broad, impressive summit that delivers early panoramic views across Thirlmere, the Helvellyn range and down into the valley below. From here, the ridge flows gracefully over to Calf Crag, a rocky, characterful Wainwright with wide-open vistas across the heart of the Lakes.

The journey continues along a delightful high-level path towards Gibson Knott, a compact summit perched above Far Easedale, before reaching the iconic Helm Crag — the famous Lion and the Lamb. Few fells offer such memorable rock formations or such a commanding overlook of Grasmere and its surrounding peaks.
