“If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try.”
Seth Godin
Do you fancy the thrill of a lofty ridge walk with a little grade 1 scrambling?
This day is designed to provide an opportunity to try some scrambling or as an alternatively more interesting route up Helvellyn.
Helvellyn is one of Britain’s most iconic walks, due to it’s classic horseshoe ridge walks of Striding and Swirral Edge. A absolute must for any adventurer or those looking to take their hiking to the next level.
Come with us and let our experienced Mountain Leaders guide you safely with lots of tips and encouragement to complete this classic ridge walk.
The elation that we all feel when we have completed our first ridge walk and scramble is unforgettable and in most cases leaves you wanting to seek out new challenges.
The actual terrain isn’t anything that most hikers haven’t already experienced and there is even the bonus of a narrow path just below the crest for anyone who isn’t totally sure about walking along the top. It’s more the exposure that can stifle and therefore seem more challenging, but you’ll be guided, encouraged and assisted by our Mountain Leaders whilst being in a small group of like minded adventurers.
On the way down, Swirral Edge is shorter and you should have more confidence and skill after practising on the way up.
Although this route is not for people with vertigo, you won’t be the first person, with a basic level of fitness, who’s not been a huge fan of heights and large drops that’s ended up having a great time!
It’s important to note that only a small percentage of the day is spent on the ridges, so come on and give it a go!
