Come and join us for our Peak District Weekend of relaxed walking in a small sociable group, sharing the adventure, making new friends and enjoying the authentic hostel experience.

Situated in the heart of Peak District National Park, we are treated to two fabulous walks over the course of the weekend.

The Peak District National Park covers 555 square miles and is famous for it’s diverse heritage, from it’s spectacular landscape and scenery including Mam Tor, Stanage Edge and Kinder Scout, to it’s historic and picturesque villages including Castleton and Hathersage.

Steeped in history, from the 11th century castle of Peveril, that overlooks Castleton, the late 14th century parish church of St Michael and the grave of Robin Hood’s ‘Little John’ in Hathersage, to the mills of the industrial revolution.  Not to mention it’s many show caves and the unique semi-precious Blue John stone, found nowhere else in the world than under the hillside of Treak Cliff.

We arrive on Friday evening to be greeted by our host, settle in and enjoy a lovely freshly prepared meal whilst getting to know each other. A little music, fun and games … but don’t get carried away, we’re up early and out for a day of great hiking!

Kinder Scout, considered by many as the spiritual home of walking, is the highest point in the Peak District and is  synonymous with the Kinder mass organised trespass and the start of the access movement.

In 1932 around 500 walkers,  trespassed en masse and walked to Kinder Scout to secure access rights to open country for all to enjoy forever.

One of the most challenging yet rewarding walks in the Peaks, starting in Edale, at the start of the  Pennine Way. Follow in their footsteps and enjoy the moorland plateau that others fought so hard for, on this historic walk.

A day of great hiking, taking in the spectacular scenery and history of Edale Valley, on this beautiful and iconic circular walk up Jacob’s ladder and onto Kinder Scout as well as taking in Nether Tor and The Nab.

On a clear day, the list of landmarks visible are endless… Mam Tor, Winter Hill, the three Yorkshire peaksThe Roaches, Beeston Castle, Snowdon and Tryfan … to name but a just few!

After our first day of hiking we are treated to another exceptional home cooked meal whilst the socialising is in full swing!

Sunday sees us taking on another fantastic, but shorter local walk. Starting in the village of Hathersage, this 9 mile walk takes us along the wonderful cliffs of Stanage Edge with superb views of the Derwent & Hope Valleys, Mam Tor and Kinder Scout.

On the way to the Stanage Edge, we will pass North Lees Hall which is a building steeped in history. This 16th century manor is thought to have been the inspiration behind Mr Rochester’s home in Jane Eyre. The remains of their chapel, built in 1685 and destroyed three years later, can still be seen on the grounds.
Once we have passed the Hall, we continue on to Stanage Edge itself.
Stanage Edge is arguably the largest and most impressive gritstone escarpment in the Peak District. Situated on the moors north of Hathersage, it stretches for 6 km (3.5 miles) and is visible from miles away down in the Hope Valley .
The landscape is sprinkled with old millstones and grindstones. These are all discarded relics of a once flourishing industry, since the industry started to move on in the 1860s they were left abandoned, but are now iconic of the Peak District landscape.
Many people now visit Stanage Edge for rock climbing and also as part of a Pride & Prejudice pilgrimage. This was one of the filming locations for Pride and Prejudice the film adaptation of the Austen novel- these are the very rocks where Kiera Knightly stood looking windswept and wistful.

After another epic day of hiking we conclude with a sunday roast at the exceptional Scotman’s Pack Inn, where we reflect on our amazing weekend adventure and hopefully we have made a few new friends and memories that will last long in the memory.

Come, boot up and  join us on another epic adventure!
